30-year-old Running Backs Added to Endangered Species List

LaDainian Tomlinson and Brian Westbrook were both released by their respective teams this past week, apparently on account of the new running back expiration date implemented by NFL owners. In an industry where a contract isn’t really a contract, it’s just business as usual…which is bad news for 30 year-old running backs.

Neither move is really that surprising, as both Tomlinson and Westbrook have declined steadily in the past couple of years. And that’s the harsh reality in the life of an NFL running back. This past season, LT saw his yards per carry drop to an all-time low. While Westbrook still showed some signs of life, he spent more time on the sidelines than on the field due to a series of injuries…appearing in a career-low 8 regular season games.

This mysterious ailment, commonly known as Shaun Alexander Syndrome (SAS), continues to affect more and more running backs every year. Research indicates that most victims of SAS also suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, which makes for some god-awful studio analysis (see Emmitt Smith and Tiki Barber) and limited career choices.

Fortunately, there is something you can do to help. Donations to fight SAS are now being accepted by Bam Morris Charities. For more information, please email: grams4bam@gfail.com

  1. Hell I had to google Bam to see how old he was, he only played 4 years in the league but I didn't realize how long ago that was. He's 38, and last played in the NFL in 1999 for Kansas City. Maybe he's the hot dog shooting mascot???

Bam resurfaced in 2006 and played for the Orlando Predators? That could be the all chick league, well if you consider Trucker Dikes chicks.

But anyway, not sure why so many years between playing for Bam......oh...wait. Cough, cough..

Alexander is a bizarre case of going from MVP one year to riding the pines the next. Sounds like he was using something to "help" his performance then stopped taking whatever it was.

I heard chatter that Westbrook may go to the Vikings in a move to keep #4 from retiring. I hope he plays until he's 50.

  2. Actually, I don't think the Orlando Predators is a football team. I believe it's a Florida sex offender registry. They have quite a backfield combo with Bam Morris & Travis Henry.

Westbrook could certainly end up w/ the Vikes, and maybe teach AP how to hang on to the ball. My guess though would be the Pats or Skins.

  3. I guess it depends on what motivates Westbrook. If it's the money then he'll go to the skins, but if he wants to play for a team that's worth a shat he'll go Pats or Vikes.

I think Nate Newton was on that squad with Henry and Bam. Funny that Nate did his drug running whilst employed by the world wide leader as an "Analyst"
Which consisted of him interrupting interviews with NFL players by saying "yo man what's up this is Big Nate, watch you been up to"
Which is far more entertaining that the players reactions when borderline homosexual, metro-sexual Tiki Barber shows up in the showers wearing a rain coat with no pants to "just get an interview"
